Between a Google Cardboard and a VR-headset
One of my X-mas gifts was the Stooksy VR-Spektiv XL, a Germany Virtual Reality headset for my mobile phone, a iPhone 6 off course...
On the second Christmas morning I decided to mount the VR-Spektiv and I can honestly say that I never took so long to mount a VR Headset ever! With a mixed feeling of joy and anger I spent 30 minutes puzzling to put all pieces together. The instructions are clear and it really feels like mounting a 3D puzzle.
So if you enjoy puzzles you will like to put this one together, if you don't like to puzzle and you want to start your VR immersion immediately you can buy it pre-mounted (+9€).
Stooksy Spektiv XL is big but very light weighted. with overall size of 18x10x10cm it does feel big when wearing it but it's small weight of 127 grams helps to this headset relatively comfortable. It has a 3 way head-strap which is made of good elastic material so it should last. The headset itself is made from strong but flexible foam which is really thick making it a big headset but also seems durable. It does nog have a case and is not very portable because of its size.
The lenses are really good quality and with a diameter of 34mm it meets today's standards. I suspect these lenses are made from glass instead of acrylic plastic because they are very clear. The interpupillary distance is adjustable as well as the lens distance to the screen which is important for far- and near-sighted people.
The field of view is not very big (around 80 degrees I think) with an iPhone 6, I'm sure it must be a lot better when using a iPhone 6S Plus.
This VR Headset has a very playful appearance and does not seem like a serious gaming device, but thanks to the lens quality, it's ability to adjust the lenses and the 3 ways head-strap I think it is suitable for serious VR gameplay.
Aside from the VR-Spektiv XL we tested there are 3 other model:
|VR-Spektiv Standard||4, 4S, 5, 5S, 5C|
|VR-Spektiv XL||5, 5S, 5C, 6, 6S|
|VR-Spektiv iP6+||6, 6S, 6+, 6S+|
The overall price/quality relation is good. It's between a Cardboard and a Homido VR. And it should be. Like the Homido VR, Zeiss VR One and lots of other headset this headset also does not have a v2 conductive button, which is becoming the standard control nowadays.
